Working Group 1
New/existing Buildings
Working Group 1 are considering carbon reductions in relation to the design and construction of new buildings and the improvement of the existing building stock.
WG 1 is looking at how EU states are implementing the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and its requirements through national building regulations and planning.
WG1 are considering the existing building stock and how carbon reductions can be achieved in both domestic buildings and other building types. This includes the possibility of including building integrated renewables and alternative energy systems.
The EPBD does not cover smaller buildings and housing, although significant carbon reductions can be achieved these building types. Many EU states have large amounts of substandard housing where carbon reductions may be part of general improvement programmes.
